- Listen to radio — Los Altos 530 AM, KCBS 740 AM, KZSU 90.1 FM
- Earthquake — check your home for gas or water leaks, then go to school if you can
- Fire or gas leak — check radio, students will probably walk to Santa Rita Elementary
- Intruder on campus — go to Santa Rita; don't call in to office or your student's cell (keep lines free for police)
- Family emergency? — call the school office at (650) 917-2200
Keep cars away from campus and parking lot —DON'T BLOCK emergency vehicles.

Basic Preparation for Emergencies
Make sure your student has the following on a card in their backpack:
- LAPD Emergency Alternate to 911 — (650) 947-2779
(use this number from a cell phone instead of 911 — it's quicker — program it in cell phones) - Out-of-town contact phone numbers (family or friends) in case local phone lines are not available
- Your home, work and cell numbers in case s/he forgets them due to stress
- Friends' or neighbors' numbers in case you aren't available (see Emergency Information — Student Profile Forms)
For information about preparing your family and home for a disaster, check this American Red Cross web site.

Egan's Emergency Preparedness Plan
All schools in the Los Altos School District maintain an Emergency Preparedness Plan (“EPP”). The primary objective of the EPP is the implementation of procedures that provide for the safety of students and staff in case of a disaster during school hours. The EPP is reviewed annually and updated by a District Emergency Preparedness Committee. To ensure that Egan students and staff know what to do when a disaster occurs, fire drills are conducted about six times and an earthquake drill once during the school year.
